Anniversary in Princeton

We did a little celebratin’ last weekend to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Working Stiff! We made a reservation at the Westin Princeton Forestal Village (on Rt. 1 just outside of Princeton) for Saturday night and set off on our mini-adventure.

Our first stop was Grounds for Sculpture, also just off Rt. 1 east of Trenton.  The weather was not great but it was good enough and we had a very nice visit overall.  (I’ve written about Grounds for Sculpture before – please see entry from 11/22/2015.) read more

All Hands on Deck

I’ve been working on the rail-road!

Well not really, but I don’t know any songs about working on the deck! Plus, now you get to have the rail road song in your head all day!

Mrs. Working Stiff and I have been slaving away on a project to refinish our back deck. It has been almost exactly five years since the last time so I guess we can’t complain too much.  The phase of scraping off all the loose junk is complete.  Let me tell you, if you can avoid doing that – avoid it!  It is knuckle-scraping, back-aching, sweat-breaking, sun-baking work.  Not to mention time-taking.  Hopefully though, the result of all this hard work will be breath-taking. read more

Winter to Summer

Visiting the mall in the first week of spring

Never mind spring – welcome to summer! It was in the low 80s yesterday and I believe we are expecting around 85 on Sunday.  I guess all the Easter Eggs will be hard boiled!

Just a quick entry today because I wanted to share this picture I took just a few weeks ago in the last few days of winter. Here in the suburbs north of Philadelphia, Old Man Winter decided to give us one final smack in the face just days before the official start of spring.  Ironically, though we had been hit with “shovel-worthy” snow at least a few times throughout the winter, this storm, at the tail-end of March, was the only one for which I bothered to fire up the snow-thrower. read more

Birthday Wine in New Hope

The Working Stiff had a birthday just this past Friday, and we celebrated as well as we could, given the dreary day. We have had quite a stretch of rainy and/or cold days, with but a few breaks of sunshine.  I suppose it’s that old April showers thing, though the rainy streak does back up well into March.

At any rate, the Mrs. took a half day off from work and we decided – goll-dern the weather – lets go out! (Note that I knew a real person who used to say “goll-dern”, and variations of that, and it wasn’t me!) We set off towards New Hope, northeast of Le Chateau Working Stiff along the Delaware River. read more

Rally in Raleigh

I was going through pictures on my aging iPhone last week, trying to cut back to no more than two or three hundred of our two photogenic cats, when I happened upon this batch that I had taken late last year.  Mrs. Working Stiff and I had gone to Raleigh, NC, to visit my brother and sister-in law at their cool pad – a Boylan Heights bungalow.

We had a great time as always. One fun thing in particular that we did was to visit the North Carolina Museum of Art to see a temporary exhibit of beautiful classic cars.  I’m sorry that I’m just writing this a few weeks after the exhibit has ended, but it was really something to see and at least I have these pictures to share! read more

September 11, 2015

I was busy today, working on this or that, and had not watched TV or listened to the radio. In something I was doing I finally realized the date today – September 11, of course. Realizing that all of a sudden, and the enormous significance of this date to our country, I thought it made sense to post a few pictures of the new Freedom Tower, which now rises above lower Manhattan near the original footprints of The Twin Towers.

Without Stumbling over myself trying to write something profound, I’ll just say – let’s respectfully remember all those who lost their lives on this date fourteen years ago, as well as all those who lost a loved one or whose lives were otherwise turned upside down. read more
